Ready To Sign Up? Are you a CN pensioner or surviving spouse and still not a member of the CNPA? Have you wondered why you should consider becoming a member all for only $1 a month? Hopefully our Programs & Benefits Page will have assisted you in making the decision to join us. The annual membership fee is $12.00 and the period is calendar year (January - December). Membership fee can be paid via payroll deduction (recommended method of payment). We arrange to have $1.00 per month deducted from your monthly pension cheque. This method is administratively beneficial to the association as it helps keep our administrative costs down. It saves the cost of postage to and from members each year, banking fees, transportation costs, etc. It is also beneficial to the pensioner as it continues without interruption until otherwise advised by the pensioner. You never have to wonder if your dues have been paid ever again. NOTE: As part of the Partnership agreement between CN and CNPA, effective January 1, 2020, CN will pay for the first twenty-four months of CNPA membership for all new retirees who enroll in the CNPA upon their retirement. Starting in the twenty-fifth month, your membership contribution will automatically be deducted from your monthly pension payment. Please note that the Payroll Deduction option is unfortunately not available to those who would fall under the "Associate Member" category. - About Us | cnpensioners.org
About the CN Pensioners Association Who We Are The purpose of the CN Pensioners Association (CNPA) is to represent the needs of all retired CN employees. Our objective is to protect your interests, financial and otherwise, regarding your pension, your benefits and support and enhance your social interests and activities. The CNPA was established over 40 years ago but we continue to evolve over the years, changing with the times. As a group, we are active in the communities we live in. We proactively advocate governments on Seniors' issues. We are an equal partner, along with the unions and CN, on the CN Pension Committee, ensuring our pensions are funded and improved over time. When sufficient funds are available we propose to the CN Board of Directors, for its consideration, pension improvements for our pensioners and also recommend modifications to the Pension Plan rules to the CN Board of Directors for review and approval. We have an important role in monitoring and communicating matters relating to the funding of our pensions and other pension matters. With over 31,000 pensioners across the country, the CNPA wants to ensure you stay connected, have access to a wide variety of benefits, and have a place to connect with your former colleagues and to meet new friends. All this is managed by dedicated volunteers from every corner of the country. Despite popular belief, we are not just a group of old fogies who sit around playing pinochle. Our CNPA members are involved and active in the communities they live in, in volunteer efforts, recreation and leisure activities. We work with external partners to provide a variety of benefits, including insurance and travel discounts. While CN Pension & Benefits Administration (1-800-361-0739) is the primary contact for your specific defined benefit pension plan issues, you or your spouse can also direct your or concerns about pension provisions, your benefits, changes, etc. to an executive member at any level. We will point you in the right direction for answers on issues affecting your retirement. We are just a call or email away. About Our Organization The CN Pensioners Associations Inc. is a volunteer run, tri-level association, each with their own constitution and by-laws. The plan will be phased in over time and, by mid-year 2024, many Canadians over 65 may be eligible to receive treatment and coverage under the plan. You can review the provisions, eligibility, timing and how and when to apply online at the Govenment of Canada website - https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan.html You should receive a government letter when you are age eligible to apply. When you receive the letter: Follow the instructions in the letter to apply by phone. Wait to receive a confirmation from Service Canada that lets you know whether your application was successful and you qualify for the CDCP. If you do qualify, wait to receive your welcome package from Sun Life before scheduling any dental appointments. It will explain further when you can start to get care paid for and how. If you need help, get a family member to assist you, but make sure you take advantage of this important and valuable benefit. This year, Rail Safety Week 2024 will be held in Canada, the United States and Mexico from September 23-29. Operation Lifesaver, and its partners, created Rail Safety Week in 2003 to raise public awareness of the potential dangers at railway crossings and from trespassing on railway property. Since then the momentum has grown and together with our partners at Operation Lifesaver, CN will join forces again this year to promote public rail safety in communities throughout our network across North America. Join our CN Rail Safety Week team! Rail Safety Week is just around the corner and we need your help to ensure it's a success! Why get involved?
