  • CN Railroaders in the Community | cnpensioners.org

CN Railroaders in the Community Thanks for 2025 Efforts & Changes for 2026 Hello Railroaders, Thank you once again for those who participated in the Railroaders in the Community program. Many of you have shown your commitment and generosity by volunteering your time and skills to non-profit organizations which matter to you. Here are some of the amazing results that our retirees have accomplished through the program in 2025. A total of 468 volunteers submitted hours into the program Those 468 volunteers raised more than $1M for their favourite charities - a total of $1,012,427 The $1M+ total for 2025 was an incredible 83% higher than what the program raised just 3 years ago. Thanks in part to you, the Railroaders in the Community program was once again successful in 2025. To maintain the program’s sustainability while continuing to recognize and reward your contributions, the following adjustments will be made to the program starting in 2026 : The maximum volunteer reward hours per eligible participant will be 100 hours per year . CN will now cover the 2.9% Benevity service charge, ensuring that your chosen organizations receive the full amount earned through your volunteer hours Incentive bonuses now awarded based upon winners of a draw from the pool of all CNPA volunteers The reward rate remains at $15 per hour volunteered If you have any questions, please contact RailroadersintheCommunity@cn.ca . CN is proud of the hundreds of employees, their families, and retirees who give generously of their time to local causes through our CN Railroaders in the Community (RRITC) program . These volunteers are part of the social fabric of the many cities, towns and villages across our entire North American network, helping to make their communities better places to live and work. CN supports their efforts by providing charitable donations to the organizations where CN railroaders volunteer. Each hour of volunteer work earns a $15 reward, up to a maximum of 100 hours or $1500 per retiree per year (including volunteer hours completed by their spouse/surviving spouse). There is no limit to the number of organizations a CN retiree and the spouses/surviving spouses of CN retirees can volunteer with. We are also happy to confirm that if you have already started volunteering in your community this year, any volunteer hours accumulated since January 1 for a recognized charity will qualify for a reward in the same calendar year. Please note that reward funds are always disbursed at the end of the month following approval. For example, if your hours were approved on March 6, the funds will be disbursed on April 30. If your organization is set up to receive cheques, please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. If they are set up for EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer), the funds will arrive immediately once disbursed. The funds are not issued directly by CN but by the Benevity Online Giving Foundation. Thanks to CN's digital platform SPARK , you can easily track your volunteer hours and see when the donation to your charity was made. Rewards are transferred electronically to the eligible organizations on a monthly basis. Check out the exciting new features of the Railroaders in the Community program at SPARK SPARK User Guide CN Railroaders in the Community FAQ To login for the first time: Username: your CN PIN number. Password: the first three letters of your last name + your CN PIN+ ! Example: The password for Jane Smith (PIN 168750) would be: smi168750! Once logged in for the first time, you must change your email address to a personal email and you will be asked to change your password. If you previously accessed the site while as a CN employee, you will need to change your email. Surviving spouses of retirees should contact railroadersinthecommunity@cn.ca for assistance with the login. NOTE: For those retirees who have tried to log in for the first time and have followed the new log in procedure, but are still experiencing difficulties accessing the new platform, please email railroadersinthecommunity@cn.ca . Please be sure to include your full name as it appears on your CN Pension Statement as well as your CN PIN number. If it is just a password issue, they can assist you by creating a new password for you. However, if it turns out to be a technical issue, they will be unable to assist you until the issue has been resolved between CN and Benevity. Until then, CN advises those retirees to keep track of their volunteer hours so that they can be entered into the system once CN notifies your access to the system has been fixed. How does the incentive bonus for CNPA members work? If you volunteered with a registered not-for-profit organization between January 1 and December 31, 2026, and you log your hours in the RRITC portal by 5:00pm EST on December 31, you’ll automatically be entered into a special raffle draw. Ten CNPA members (2 per region) will each win a $2,000 charitable gift for the organization where they volunteered — a fantastic way to support the causes you care about! Draw Date: January 2027. Winners will be contacted directly and announced on the CNPA website.

  • IPO Option to Age 65 | cnpensioners.org

Increased Pension to Age 65 Option If you retire before age 65, you may elect the increased pension to age 65 option (IPO). Under this option, you receive more from the CN Pension Plan before age 65 and less after age 65. If you choose this option, your increased CN pension will be reduced for life once you reach age 65. Your decision to elect or decline this option is personal and irrevocable. The following example illustrates how the IPO affects an employee retiring early at age 56 and 6 months on December 31, 2004: With IPO : Monthly Pension before Age 65 CN Basic Pension $2500 IPO Allowance $ 183 Total Monthly Pension $2683 Monthly Pension after Age 65* CN Basic Pension $2283 Without IPO : Monthly Pension before Age 65 CN Basic Pension $2500 IPO Allowance $ 0 Total Monthly Pension $2500 Monthly Pension after Age 65 CN Basic Pension $2500 * In this example, at age 65, the total CN monthly pension of $2,683 being paid is reduced for life by the fixed amount of $400 a month ($2,683 - $400 = $2,283). The increased pension to age 65 option is calculated so that the value of both options is, on average, the same. The amount of the IPO allowance reflects the age of the member at retirement, the applicable reduction of $400 at age 65, interest rates and whether the member retired early or on disability pension. Because survivor benefits are calculated using the CN basic pension amount, your decision to elect or decline the IPO will have no bearing on pension benefits which may become payable to your survivors.

Council Newsletter The Saskatchewan Council issues a newsletter 5 times per year. It provides information to our members from the National Council, from the Health Care Committee concerning the Blue Cross Health Care Plan, and from the CN Pension meetings held four times per year. It also includes information from our local meetings and from pensioners/surviving spouses in our local communities that forward information to either our meetings or directly to the Newsletter Editor. The newsletter also keeps you up to date on the latest on savings on travel, reductions on automobile purchases, home/car/travel insurance, hotel stays, scholarships for children/grandchildren, etc. This newsletter goes to those who have signed up to the Saskatchewan council only and so, it is not available online. The newsletter can be received electronically by email and this is our preferred method as it saves the council mailing costs. As well, by choosing this option, you will receive the newsletter approximately five days earlier than via Canada Post and it will be in colour rather than a black and white mailed copy. To receive it electronically, you still must be a member in good standing. We currently have close to 500 pensioners/spouses that receive it by email. Our History The Saskatchewan CNR Pensioners Assoc. was founded in February 1985. In the words of Stan Plue, one of our founders... "When I retired in 1982, and after a year of talking with people I worked with, and associated with when working, I thought it would be a good idea if we had an organization where we could meet and visit. It became that 23 Pensioners formed the C.N.R. Pensioners Assoc. in Saskatoon in 1985. We had a lot of help from trades people on the C.N. but the person that made this all happen was Mr. Russ Pelesh who was the District Superintendent at the time, headquartered in Saskatoon".
